MEASURING BASICS FOR OUTSIDE MOUNTED WINDOW TREATMENTS
There are a few basic measurements that should always be taken
even if you feel there not needed! When your at a customers house you
create a mental picture of the entire job and take what you feel are the
correct measurements, a few days go by and your writing up your order
and now questioning your own measurements! You are asking
yourself did I take a deduction so the drape does not touch the floor?
Did I allow for stack back on the drapes? Do I have room above the
window if I need to go higher? How deep was I going to make that valance?
So here are the basics to live by!
1) First off, draw the window on a sheet of paper.
2) Measure the width of the window from outside molding
to outside molding and make a drawing.
3) Measure
4) Measure from the top of the molding to the ceiling.
5) If the window is close to a corner wall, cabinet, etc,
measure from outside molding to the object.
6) If for some reason you need to make a measurement allowance
be sure to write "allowance taken" on your sheet so there is no
question later!
7) Always, always draw everything out even if it looks like scribble!
Make sure you draw arrows from point to point. As the saying
goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words".
8) If you are measuring between cabinets, walls etc. Here is
what you should state on your order. "Inside mount, exact measurement, please make allowances."
